“When Lucena depicts those colours, he brings to light not only the heaven of his memory, but infancy, life and affection in the Paraíba countryside themselves. Lucena paints memory and affection, and puts us in a very particular position as observers. As occurs in every artistic output, we cannot gain access to the author’s inner life to reach the ultimate bond that would allow a absolute appreciation of his work. Therefore, we must create new associations ourselves and wander freely around his universe of vivid colours and fluid shapes.”
